1.8.0-RC2 and beyond (EOW 2nd Apr)

End of the week (public holiday for me tomorrow) update for RC2 is that
a few severe bugs are hopefully now fixed, some of which were introduced
in RC2. This puts us in good stead to release RC3 around the end of
next week.

My particular concerns right now are:

  1. #3849: current Hammer host creation doesn't work well with the
networking changes, and the updates are unmerged and unreleased. I
think we may require this all for RC3 so the CLI is usable in the
release. Testing of these PRs against develop would be valuable.

  2. #9779: first form submission intermittently fails for VMware
provisioning, waiting on someone to reproduce it with the debugging.

  3. #9871: VMware provisioning throws "invalid MAC" error. This may be a
hypervisor configuration error only, however more data points are needed.

Cheers,

RC3 was planned for Friday 10th, but I'm going to delay it a little.

We have two important things to get into RC3:

  1. CVE-2015-1844 multi-org behaviour changes
    (Bug #9947: CVE-2015-1844 - GET /api/hosts doesn't respect organization/location membership - Foreman), which are risky.

I'm unsure if all of this will be done by Monday 13th April, but if it
is, RC3 will be cut then. I'm away for a few days after that, so the
next Monday (20th) is likely to be my next opportunity.

I would like to make RC3 to 1.8.0 a shorter period of time, as the
number of open tickets has reduced.

As always.
