API branch merged

Hi,

I've just merged the new API branch into develop.

I did encounter a few issues, mostly around the fact that the apipie gem
is required in production as well, as it is used in the /api auto
generated links etc.

I've also seen it blocking migrations etc, I'll appreciate if someone has
some free cycles to have a look.
