To Red Hatters,
I'm trying to work remotely from a public library but can't connect to
Redhat's VPN or to Quassel IRC (on Greg's server), even though I can
connect to the the public internet.
Does anybody have ideas what is blocking me?
Thanks,
Joseph
Hi Joseph,
I'm pretty sure you asked the wrong list :).

Long past needing a reply, but for the record, public connections
nearly always use a port-filtering firewall to block non-standard
ports (80, 443, 25 etc). I expect vpn and irc are considered
non-standard and blocked by the firewall.
For clever people - use ssh tunnelling to bypass the problem
