It’s been more than a month since DevConf 2026, and I just realized that I totally forgot to write up my report. Here I am, one month later, with my notes & impression from this year.
What’s Foreman / Satellite?
Generally, I had a feeling that more people were aware of what Foreman or Satellite is. Not just the “I heard of it” crowd, but users who use it daily, or someone in their company does. I don’t have exact numbers, but even excluding insiders (Red Hatters), the feeling was we are getting more famous!
Secure provisioning
This topic came up twice from two different attendees, with one attendee describing his requirements at their company:
Everything in the (provisioning) process must be secure, and ideally somehow certified, ready for PQC. From start to finish, everything must be secure, with clearly defined steps, documentation, and guidelines if something goes wrong.
I bet this could be a use case for many of our users as well. If not now, then in the future for sure.
Image-based provisioning
Two attendees were particularly interested in Foreman’s capabilities in image-based provisioning. We had a nice chat about netboot iso; I talked with them about Foreman Discovery & Foreman Bootdisk, but in the end their preferred solution was based on “official images,” where they could slightly alter them for provisioning with Foreman, and that’s it. Netboot iso it is then.
Clonezila
One user was discussing their environment with us, where they deploy hundreds of machines at a time for a specific task, then scratch them. They are using the BitTorrent protocol and a tool called Clonezilla.
It was really interesting to see their environment and use cases, and even though Foreman was not fit for their needs, I had a lot of “today I learned” moments during the discussion.
AI MCP
Several people showed interest in the new Foreman MCP server. I redirected them to @aruzicka with further questions, but in general I had the impression people are keen to use it in their environments.
Confusing Katello logo
One user was guessing, based on the logo, that Katello is a security add-on for Foreman. When I tried to explain what the logo means, I failed, and we agreed it looks like a security thing.
