Discovery plugin

Hi @all,

I've installed the new discovery plugin on my foreman server. Is there a
possibility to download the needed ISO somewhere or do I need to download
the git repository and create the ISO myself?

Regards Thomas

There's no prebuilt ISO as it's expected to be used from a PXE server (so
you need a vmlinuz/initrd pair). You can get a prebuilt image at [1] or use
the bundled rake task which should show up in the rake tasks for Foreman
(rake -T).

If you really do need an ISO (for booting some other way than PXE) then
there's a doc in the git repo for bundling the image into an ISO.

Greg

Hi Greg,

sorry for the wrong wording, the vmlinuz/initrd pair was what I'm search
for. Thanks for the link!

By the way, if you are on RHEL6 or clones, we already have RPM packages
with discovery plugin. Follow the link on our wiki page:

Hi Lukas,

thanks for the hint, I already use the RPM for the plugins but there is no
automatic way to deploy the discovery image on my TFTP server, neither per
foreman GUI nor through RPMs, that was the reason why I searched for
prebuild vmlinuz/initrd images. It would be cool to have an option in the
foreman GUI like, for every unknown host, use the discovery image when PXE
is requested and let foreman-proxy do the configuration on the TFTP server.

It's difficult to get the image building to work from the UI, for a variety
of reasons. It may happen one day, but it's not a dev focus right now.

Once you have the image, then deploying the TFTP config, as you suggest, is
just a matter of updating the Default PXE template and hitting Deploy
