Does anyone uses multiple organizaation?

Hello,

in katello, does anyone uses multiple organization ? like org1 for managing
OS rpms and puppet modules and org2 for Application team's rpms and puppet
modules ??

if yes then how do you share content to multiple organization ?? so for
example once host gets provisioned how you register it to org1 or org2? and
then how you back and forth in org1 and org2 to manage different contents ??

any thoughts ?

Regards,
DJ

Hosts cannot be in multiple organizations, so that's not possible right
now. I think I've read requests for it on IRC (#theforeman-dev) often.

Currently the only way a host can be in multiple organizations (sort
of) is by nesting them. This does however give people on the top-level
organization rights over the nested organization.

Nested organizations are not applicable to content hosts. Satellite-6, which is based on katello, has this feature disabled to avoid confusion.

Sharing content across organizations is a design topic not yet tackled. If you wish to share more details on what problems you are trying to solve with this, that would be very useful in guiding the design process.

For example, my laptop has both Red Hat and custom products. I've wished get RHEL from Red Hat via the customer portal and CDN (so I don't need to sync and manage the content myself), and custom products from a local katello. There are several possible solutions to do this:

  1. Allow subscription-manager to register to multiple content sources (register to Red Hat, my team's Sat-6, and my personal development katello).
  2. Allow sharing content views between orgs so they could be bundled into composite CVs. (Would still require managing of RHEL myself in my dev katello.)
  3. Allow multiple subscription manifests to be imported into a single org. (We had a feature in the past that would let an org in katello create a manifest of its own products for import into another katello or just another org. Would still require sync'ing of RHEL.)
  4. Add a "thumbslug" style content source which just proxies requests for content rather than sync'ing. This could be used as a component of any of the above to remove the need to manage some content. (This is the cdn.redhat.com style of registration.)
