Foreman Discovery 2.0 release schedule

Hello,

Foreman Discovery release 2.0 will be biggest bunch of new features in
the history of this plugin. New CentOS7-based image with extensions,
auto-provisioning, proxy plugin, improved UI, brand new CLI and more.

Since lots of things changed this time, we will ask you guys to test out
the upcoming version with all the supported Foreman versions
(develop/nightly builds, 1.7), therefore we suggest the following
schedule:

Jan 15: Foreman Discovery 2.0 RC1
Jan 22: Foreman Discovery 2.0 RC2
Jan 29: Foreman Discovery 2.0 RC3
Feb 03: Foreman Discovery 2.0 (or one additional RC4)

I realise Discovery has traditionally had release candidates, but I'd
encourage you to just make a 2.0.0 release, then subsequent patch/minor
versions as necessary. RCs add a bit of unnecessary complication IMO.

(Foreman itself only has a couple of RCs these days too.)

I generally agree, but with Discovery being tied to the PXE default
boot file, it's not a bad idea to let the community give it some smoke
testing before we potentially do something damaging to fresh
undiscovered hosts booting from PXE. Add in the new indirection via
the discovery proxy plugin (first release for that) and an RC phase
starts to look like a good idea.

I agree that Lukas is being a little conservative. If all goes well,
there'll probably only be 1 RC

On the other hand, it's all about versioning and I really don't care
about getting 2.0.0, 2.0.1 and maybe 2.0.2 out instead of RCs.

Yeah, it's the worst scenario here.

Let's do the RCs and for the next release, let's just drop it. It will
likely be a smaller one.

May I know by when all the bits will be available in nightly including
cli…? I'm trying a fresh install of nightly now to see this too. Would be
great if someone please confirm here ?

Thanks

Sachin,

we are slipping the RC1 for the next week. There are some outstanding
bugs we want to solve.
