Foreman, Katello and puppet

Hello,

I am about to embark on a green fields deployment of puppet, I tried the katello-foreman installer and whilst it works there is bit and pieces and it seems like its Foreman 1.3 that gets installed but I got to wondering if putting katello and foreman on the same machine is a good idea to begin with since Katello only need provide the source URL repos and manage subscriptions.

The other point I was pondering is should I be staying with the tried and true Puppet 2.7 or given its green fields charge ahead with Puppet 3.x

Any war stories you can share would be most helpful.

Thanks

Howdy Luke,

Sounds like what you looked at is Katello 1.4 where Katello and Foreman
were side-by-side applications. Since that release we have embarked on a
change to make Katello a plugin to Foreman and are nearing the next big
community release of Katello. This means that currently there are 'nightly'
installs available, the next month should see a stable release with this
architecture. If you'd like to learn a bit more or test a deployment out
you can start with https://github.com/Katello/katello-deploy
