Foreman/Puppet on RHEL 5.7 [tutorial]

Hi,

I've spent last couple of weeks getting one of the latest Foreman
releases (0.5, commit 197e2dcecf73a05b4da8c656aa1d494a84e62c63)
working on a rather ancient RHEL 5.7 system.

I got there in the end, and now have a fully working system. It's not
in production, just a test system, but seems to be working reasonably
OK.

Since I had to go through a fair amount of trial-and-error exercises
while building various Ruby libraries I thought I'd share my
experience with everyone. Hopefully someone finds this useful.

two comments:

  1. maybe leave the rpms you created somewhere, I'm guessing a few
    people would appericiate it :wink:
  2. if you like, you should add your blog to the wiki, I'm sure many
    people could find it useful regardless of rhel 5.x.

Both done now: first post links to pre-built RPMs, and I've also added
links to the Wiki.
