Google summer of code, Rails girls and Outreachy deadlines approaching

Hi foreman-devs,

Last year I made proposals to include the Foreman project at Google
summer of code, GNOME OPW (now renamed Outreachy) and Rails Girls
summer of code. We were fortunate enough to have hosted 3 interns for
two OPW rounds.

Due to other program I'll be mentoring from May to August, I cannot
really commit to mentor a student during that time frame.

However, I've had members from the community and at Red Hat help me in
the past with this, so I know I am not the only one interested in
introducing new developers to Foreman.

Is there anyone in particular that would like to fill in the
applications and mentor students if accepted? You would need to
essentially explain to all of these programs how will the onboard
process for interns will be, explain how do you plan to help them, and
so forth.

Deadlines are relatively close (1 week + 1 day for Google summer of
code, unspecified for Rails Girls SoC, ASAP for Outreachy as in March
3rd they open up student applications), so if you think you could
help, please reply to this thread NOW

Of course, I can help with applications (even make them myself) if
needed, but I cannot guarantee beforehand I'll have time to mentor a
student personally that's why I need to ask if there are volunteers
who can commit to this before applying.

Thanks -devs, you're the best!

Friendly reminder, we're getting close to the date when Outreachy orgs
will be announced, and still have not received any volunteers.
As I said I could help proposing projects or tell you about what being
a mentor entails, anyone could help?

I'd be interested in Outreachy, what does being a mentor entail,
especially in terms of time comittments?

I'm likewise interested, but my daytime time is likely to be limited
for the next few months. More info about expectations would be
appreciated!

Expectations are basically here:

https://wiki.gnome.org/Outreachy/Admin/InfoForMentors

and here

https://wiki.gnome.org/OutreachProgramForWomen/Admin/InternshipTime

Summing up, in the past this meant for us to:

  • Review prospective interns contributions, they have to land
something in the project to be considered
  • Give some guidance about the internship project (especially at
the beginning of the program) and help them decide according to what
    they like.
  • Establish 2h of office hours (which might or might not be used by
the mentee!) weekly. Keep in mind applicants might be from all over
the world so it's hard to expect mentors to be available any time the
    mentee is working.
  • Make sure the intern is blogging periodically
  • Track progress to make sure everything goes smoothly. Payments
are made in 3 installments so if the intern stops working altogether
    you should notify it.

If interested, please contact me ASAP as like I said deadlines are close
