I was wondering if there was any plans for $subject? If there is work in
progress, are there any requests for there to be the ability to copy/clone
a compute profile?

There are some APIs for compute profiles in v2, see
/api/v2/compute_profiles for managing the profiles themselves and
/api/v2/compute_profiles/:id/compute_attributes for each set of compute
resource-specific attributes below them.
You could clone a profile manually by creating a new compute profile,
then for each compute_attributes below it, upload them again. I don't
think our UI has a clone button either.
Looks like Hammer hasn't got support for managing them yet,
Feature #6344: Commands for read operations around compute profiles and attributes - Hammer CLI - Foreman is the tracker for it.
