Install on Fedora 26 failed

Hi,

Fedora 24 is in EOL status since August, 2017. Are there any plans on
supporting Fedora 26 soon ?

I'm trying to install foreman on a fresh setup of Fedora 26. (ok it's not
officialy supported but …)

Just running foreman-installer give me this output (attached file). It
seems to fail while choosing the good postgresql package.

Should i downgrade to Fedora 24 ? or maybe Fedora 25 as i prefer not to
install EOL distros ?

If you need more informations, if you need beta testing or anything else,
please let me know as I would be really happy to help you.

Best regards,

Claude

Who knows if going to be supported but why you are not using CentOS is
supported and you not going to have any issues

Hi,

I'm used to Fedora distros. BTW i could also install on Debian 8, but
Debian 9 is here and IMO if you're supporting a distro, you should also
support upcoming release.

If Centos is going to be the only supported distros for foreman installer,
docs should be updated to say so.

This Quickstart Docs are correct. Fedora 24 is last supported by 1.15
and as noboday did have time to put in the effort for updating the
packaging and build chain for Fedora 25 or 26 there are no packages. If
you would like to help there, please speak up.

Same is true for Debian. Stretch will be supported by 1.16.

Debian 9 support is available in Foreman 1.16, for which Release
Candidate 1 is already available. We expect RC2 shortly, and we'd love
reports

It isn't, and both Debian & Ubuntu remain supported, but be aware that
it takes time. 1.16 is the first Foreman release since Stretch came
out, so it couldn't have been done any earlier anyway. 1.16 sadly was
delayed due to technical issues in the nightly builds, but it shouldn't
be much longer.

For Fedora, we generally have conflicts between how they package Ruby
and how we do things (that is, we use an SCL to contain the Ruby stack,
which Fedora does not). That means we can only release for Fedora on
the magical periods where the Ruby/Rails stacks align - otherwise there
are conflicts.

Cheers,
Greg

Hi,

Thx for answering so clearly. I could wait a bit for 1.16 and install on
Debian9. I' m using foreman since a long time and sometimes docs or manual
are not clear enough to get an easy answer.

If I can help in any way for Fedora 26 or documentation, let me know. I
have spare servers to test, and time to share.
