Katello 2.2 How do I apply errata to hosts?

I am having some serious trouble trying to get errata applied to my hosts.

I have created the following objects in Katello:

Client:
Fedora 20 client - shows up fine in the content hosts list, subscription
status is a green circle, last checking less than an hour ago, and
lifecycle environment is library

Content View:
Fedora 20 View, Version 6, Applies to lifecycle environments dev and
library, contains 22884 packages, 4973 errata
When I click to view the errata tab for this view, I get a proper list of
the errata

Here are the issues I'm having:
1)When I click on the content host and look at the subscriptions section,
it says subscription is valid, auto attach is yes, but the service level
dropdown is empty. I can't find anywhere in teh system where I can create
service levels…

2)Under the installed products section of the content host it says "Installed
Products

You do not have any Installed Products"

3)Under installable errata everything shows as 0.

I know this is not accurate though because when I look at the content view
it has sssd 1.11.7 and that has errata attached to it. My content host
currently has sssd 1.11.2 so the errata definitely applies to it.
When I go to the subscriptions tab on the content host, I can see it is
subscribed to the Fedora 20 view.

4)When I click on the errata tab under the content host and look at Show
page says "there are no errata to display".

So what in the world do I have to do before Katello will show the errata
that apply to that host? I can go to the host and list its packages and
see the out of date ones. I can also look in the content view and see both
the errata and the new packages, but none of the pages that are supposed to
tell me what errata can go on that host are showing anything…

Did these errata come from fedora? Can you link the updatexml?

Fedora's not going to have any products (/etc/pki/product will be empty,
that's normal). That's a Red Hat specific thing, but that won't affect
your using Katello.

You would need katello-agent to get errata info in the UI and be able to
do remote actions. There might be one in the fedora repos, but it's too
old. A few people have asked now, we need to package katello-agent
for f20 and f21.

Red Hat Engineering

I have uploaded a bunch of screenshots of what I'm describing. You can see
how they show that the product is there and associated with the view and
the host is subscribed to the view, but can't seem to realize it needs the
errata.

Yes, the errata came from Fedora. Screenshots should show that.

Where would I find the updatexml? I am aware of a file called repomd.xml
in my repodata directory or are you referring to something different?

One piece of information that may be useful is that I found some forum
posts regarding redhat subscriptions not working if a file called 69.pem
didn't exist in /etc/pki/product. This bug was apparently fixed in 2012.

However… I don't have any files in my /etc/pki/product directory, it's
completely empty. I have tried unsubscribing and re-subscribing but to no
avail.

Subject: [foreman-users] Katello 2.2 How do I apply errata to hosts?

I am having some serious trouble trying to get errata applied to my
hosts.

When I click to view the errata tab for this view, I get a proper list of
the errata

Here are the issues I’m having:
1)When I click on the content host and look at the subscriptions section,
it says subscription is valid, auto attach is yes, but the service level
dropdown is empty. I can’t find anywhere in teh system where I can
create
service levels…

2)Under the installed products section of the content host it says
"Installed
Products

You do not have any Installed Products"

3)Under installable errata everything shows as 0.

I know this is not accurate though because when I look at the content
view
it has sssd 1.11.7 and that has errata attached to it. My content host
currently has sssd 1.11.2 so the errata definitely applies to it.
When I go to the subscriptions tab on the content host, I can see it is
subscribed to the Fedora 20 view.

4)When I click on the errata tab under the content host and look at Show
From: it is set to “Current Environment (Library/Fedora 20 View)”, but
the
page says “there are no errata to display”.

So what in the world do I have to do before Katello will show the errata
that apply to that host? I can go to the host and list its packages and
see the out of date ones. I can also look in the content view and see
both
the errata and the new packages, but none of the pages that are supposed
to
tell me what errata can go on that host are showing anything…

Thanks for the very detailed write up of the situation! I think the katello-agent, as @stbenjam mentioned, will get you going. I'll add some other details below.

Content hosts without any Red Hat products (an empty /etc/pki/product dir) will always be "green" subscription status.

Service levels are an aspect of subscriptions that come from importing a Red Hat manifest generated on the customer portal (https://access.redhat.com). This is expected to be blank if there are only custom product subscriptions. Even setting a value has no impact on content available to the host, only in the level of support when raising issues through your Red Hat support contract.

These are only Red Hat products and based upon the /etc/pki/product pem files. (Having custom products generate these pem files is a very long-standing RFE that has not been designed out.)

How was the machine provisioned? The pem file should be dropped into the

What do you mean by the katello-agent will get me going? From what Stephen
said, the one in the repos is too old?

Here is what I have installed :

[root@fedora20client9 pki]# yum list installed | grep katello
This system is receiving updates from Red Hat Subscription Management.
katello-agent.noarch 1.1.3-3.fc20
@grfedora20base

In the Katello UI, the katello-agent is also listed as installed for this
content host.

I can also confirm that it was installed during the kickstart by looking at
that host anaconda-ks.cfg

—snip—

add subscription manager

yum -t -y -e 0 install subscription-manager
rpm -ivh
http://katello.mydomain.net/pub/katello-ca-consumer-latest.noarch.rpm
echo "Registering the System"
subscription-manager register --org="My_Company"
–name="fedora20client9.mydomain.net"
–activationkey="fedora20activationkey"
echo "Installing Katello Agent"
yum -t -y -e 0 install katello-agent
chkconfig goferd on
—snip—

Also, I can see the list of installed rpms on this host in the katello ui,
so I know that during that registration process it uploaded its installed
package list.

Shouldn't that installed package list once it's on the katello server be
enough for katello to decide what errata apply to that host?

Also, another question, am I missing the katello-package-upload command
because I have an old version of katello-agent? How did my package list
upload (because it did) if I don't have katello-package-upload. Is that
what goferd does?

We are currently working on client repositories for F20 and F21 that will
be available at the time of the 2.2 release. If you'd like a preview of
them we'll send an email today or Monday that provides the necessary
information relative to them.

Fedora’s not going to have any products (/etc/pki/product will be
empty,
that’s normal). That’s a Red Hat specific thing, but that won’t affect
your using Katello.

You would need katello-agent to get errata info in the UI and be able
to
do remote actions. There might be one in the fedora repos, but it’s
too
old. A few people have asked now, we need to package katello-agent
for f20 and f21.

Subject: [foreman-users] Katello 2.2 How do I apply errata to
hosts?

I am having some serious trouble trying to get errata applied to my
hosts.

I have created the following objects in Katello:

Client:
Fedora 20 client - shows up fine in the content hosts list,
subscription

status is a green circle, last checking less than an hour ago, and
lifecycle environment is library

Content hosts without any Red Hat products (an empty /etc/pki/product
dir) will always be “green” subscription status.

Content View:
Fedora 20 View, Version 6, Applies to lifecycle environments dev
and

library, contains 22884 packages, 4973 errata
When I click to view the errata tab for this view, I get a proper
list of

the errata

Here are the issues I’m having:
1)When I click on the content host and look at the subscriptions
section,

it says subscription is valid, auto attach is yes, but the service
level

dropdown is empty. I can’t find anywhere in teh system where I can
create
service levels…

Service levels are an aspect of subscriptions that come from importing a
Red Hat manifest generated on the customer portal (
https://access.redhat.com). This is expected to be blank if there are
only custom product subscriptions. Even setting a value has no impact on
content available to the host, only in the level of support when raising
issues through your Red Hat support contract.

2)Under the installed products section of the content host it says
"Installed
Products

You do not have any Installed Products"

These are only Red Hat products and based upon the /etc/pki/product pem
files. (Having custom products generate these pem files is a very
long-standing RFE that has not been designed out.)

3)Under installable errata everything shows as 0.

I know this is not accurate though because when I look at the
content

view
it has sssd 1.11.7 and that has errata attached to it. My content
host

currently has sssd 1.11.2 so the errata definitely applies to it.
When I go to the subscriptions tab on the content host, I can see
it is

subscribed to the Fedora 20 view.

4)When I click on the errata tab under the content host and look at
Show

From: it is set to “Current Environment (Library/Fedora 20 View)”,
but

the
page says “there are no errata to display”.

So what in the world do I have to do before Katello will show the
errata

that apply to that host? I can go to the host and list its
packages and

see the out of date ones. I can also look in the content view and
see

both
the errata and the new packages, but none of the pages that are
supposed

to
tell me what errata can go on that host are showing anything…
