[katello] manual install help

Hi!

I emailed foreman-users+subscribe@googlegroups.com but I'm not sure if it
posted so I apologize if this is duplicate.

I'm trying to install Katello manually on a RHEL 6 server that is RHN
Classic connected. I'm not sure what I need to do on the server or with our
entitlements to get past these errors. I'm new to Red Hat licensing but not
new to linux. I've tried disabling the licensing and turned it back on,
having someone add the epel and extra repositories in the Red Hat portal
for the server, and researched as much as I could. I only found someone
saying they updated a proxy rule but we don't have a proxy.

Thank you for any help or direction you could provide,
Andrew

First step for manual RHEL 6 install:

yum -y --disablerepo="*" --enablerepo=rhel-6-server-rpms install

yum-utils wget
Loaded plugins: product-id, refresh-packagekit, rhnplugin, security,
subscription-manager
This system is receiving updates from RHN Classic or RHN Satellite.

Error getting repository data for rhel-6-server-rpms, repository not found

Also if I try:

yum -y localinstall

http://fedorapeople.org/groups/katello/releases/yum/2.4/katello/RHEL/6Server/x86_64/katello-repos-latest.rpm
Loaded plugins: product-id, refresh-packagekit, rhnplugin, security,

See http://www.katello.org/docs/2.3/installation/index.html, it has the list of repos you need. I'd suggest not using RHN classic and moving to subscription-manager and the CDN, and then our commands will just work.

Otherwise you'll need to find the corresponding repos mentioned in our install docs and enable them for the server in RHN. Specifically you're missing the Optional repo.

Great! Thank you!

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask, but how old is RHN
Classic? Is there some information I can present to recommend
subscription-manager here? This is a new job for me and they have ~1500
RHEL 4,5, 6, and 7 licenses/servers that I know of and I'm investigating
Katello for a disconnected install to avoid loosing entitlement each year
when licensing gets messed up.

Red Hat has a FAQ https://access.redhat.com/rhn-to-rhsm about it. I
think subscriptions are easier to manage under RHSM.

You still have some time to migrate off RHN, the key problem at the
moment is you don't have Optional enabled to install that missing
package.

I will read up on the transition, thank you! I asked and got optional
enabled for the server so that works now. However, it's stopping at
pyparsing now among a lot of other unavailable packages:

Error: Package: python-celery-3.1.11-1.el6.noarch (katello-pulp)
Requires: pyparsing

I also see: "94 packages excluded due to repository priority protections"
so maybe those are blocked by the RHN classic setup.
