Operating Systems / Templates User Experience Issues

I'm a user experience designer who is going to help improve some of the
workflows and interactions across the Foreman app.

Ohad asked me to take a look at the Operating Systems / Templates portions
of the UI. I am here to ask you what you think of this portion of the
application. Do you think the workflows / interactions involving creation
or management of OSs or templates needs work? If so what could be better?

Any input is valuable, thanks in advance.

Thanks Kyle!

Something that feels odd is the relation between templates and OS. First
you have to specify the family of OS I want the template to be used in,
then back to the OS screen to assign the template to that OS. I know that
after some experience, but I remember when I started I used to create the
template to then find out I could not add it to the OS because I hadn't set
the family.

I totally agree, Daniel.

The relationships in general can be quite confusing… not only regarding
the templates and OS, but regarding all of Foreman's various elements
(subnets, domains, operating systems, templates, etc). I constantly find
myself trying to configure something and having to hop around various parts
of the interface to make sure that I associated everything correctly. This
can especially be confusing for new users.

(Continuing w/ the top-posting)

For me, I find the constant back-and-forth between assigning locations and organizations to be (to put it bluntly) awful. Sometimes I can assign a resource to an organization from its page, while other times I need to go to the organization page to assign it. And the same for locations. To a user there is no rhyme or reason for this. Templates in particular too don't span organizations and locations. Why does "Any Location" not mean any location instead of "no location"?

Bigger fish to fry, as they say.

+1

This is so boring when you do this three times a week

Getting rid of this would be huge improvement.
