Hi all, it's that time of the year again!
Outreachy is the successor of the GNOME outreach program for women.
It's a program meant to get students from under represented
backgrounds to work on FOSS for a few months, more info in the
official page: https://gnome.org/opw/
We're most likely participating again in what would be Foreman's 3rd
edition in the program. In the past, users and developers have
submitted projects that would like to see completed.
Since students are going to apply soon, I would recommend you to go to:
http://theforeman.org/gnomeopw.html
and submit your ideas for projects. This time we allow you to submit
any project ideas without a project mentor, although I'd urge you to
describe them in detail if you are not going to be around during the
program to help. Obviously volunteer mentors are HIGHLY welcomed.
Foreman is at the moment really understaffed when it comes to
available mentors for the program, so if you think you can do it (it's
should not be a huge time commitment, and it can be shared), please
let us know ASAP.
Thanks all, REALLY looking forward to read your proposals!
PS: some info about what being a mentor entails below

hoping to see your prop
Summing up, in the past this meant for us to:
- Review prospective interns contributions, they have to land
something in the project to be considered - Give some guidance about the internship project (especially at
the beginning of the program) and help them decide according to what
they like. - Establish 2h of office hours (which might or might not be used by
the mentee!) weekly. Keep in mind applicants might be from all over
the world so it’s hard to expect mentors to be available any time the
mentee is working. - Make sure the intern is blogging periodically
- Track progress to make sure everything goes smoothly. Payments
are made in 3 installments so if the intern stops working altogether
you should notify it.
