Pilsen Univerity trip report

Hey,

last week, I visited Pilsen University with a Foreman talk. The main
topic was Monitoring, so I took a chance to play around with some
plugins which I have never used (or minimally):

  • ABRT
  • OpenSCAP
  • Cockpit

The audience was about 50 people, students, teachers and some external
guys. I saw one guy from SUSE as well. I held the standard Foreman talk
with few additional slides with the above plugins.

We saw nice talks about Nagios/ICINGA and Zabbix which was interesting.
I was the only one to show live demo tho, and it went - wait for it -
pretty smooth (for a dev instance).

People seemed to be impressed with Cockpit itself, which I also
previewed. Lot of people did not know it actually existed.

And we got some feedback from another big user of Foreman, which
committed publicly on my request (thank you guys):

Guys have some issues with Puppet parameters overriding after upgrade
(Foreman adds \n characters instead of newlines). Unfortunately, that's
Puppet - had no clue. Hey, chance to bring attention if you ping us
in this thread!

The way back was a long train trip and it looks like I solved my problem
with image-based bare-metal deployment onto discovered hosts  I will
redo my initial patch and base it on virt-builder and NBD (Network Block
Device - something like iSCSI but much more simple):

I also filed a DevConf 16 talk on this topic ^^ Yo! Cheers.

ps - had a chance to visit Pilsner Urquell brewery and it was awesome

Perhaps #11375? There are other related tickets (due to the mess that
is validation and accessors on LookupKey/Value), but that was the most
common issue - already fixed and released.
