[trip] FOSDEM report

Hi all,

I've spoken in the past about wanting to hear from people about events
you've been to that were interesting, or that featured Foreman content. It
seemed only appropriate that I should also contribute what I've seen and
heard over the last 2 weeks. Given the four different events, I'll do one
email per event rather than one massive mail - hopefully people won't flag
me as spam

FOSDEM was 30-31st Jan, just under 2 weeks ago. We had a booth in K
building and a demo linked to the oVirt demo, which was extremely lively on
both days - as ever, there was a mix of new and existing users. If I had to
guess, I would say it was about 40% new users - certainly enough to keep
practising my "What is Foreman?" speech

From the new faces, lots of interest in provisioning and Discovery, but it
felt like config management wasn't being talked about quite as much this
year. I probably only had 2 or 3 in-depth discussions about what Foreman
can do in that area, although Ansible was getting some interest thanks to
Daniel. Most people very happy to see a tool that handles mixed
virtualisation and brown-field deployments, as usual.

Great to put more faces to IRC names, and to see familiar faces. Existing
users seemed consistent on wanting IPv6 support soon (this came up
repeatedly), and discussion about Orgs/Locs and what to do with them came
up more than once - general feeling was that tags would work for most
people. Otherwise it was mostly positive messages of thanks for the work we
all do.

Swag was extremely popular as ever - T-shirts were mostly gone by the end
of the first day, and stickers went just as fast. I'll try to have some
other swag types for next year

On Saturday, we held the Foreman Community Meal at Drug Opera. This was
much better than last year - not only were the numbers higher (I think I
counted 25 people), we also got a dedicated area where we were all sat
together. This lead to much better flow and chat throughout the evening -
I'll try to get some pictures posted at some point

Overall, a very positive two days. I've no doubt we'll be back next year

If you were also at FOSDEM, feel free to add your own Foreman-related
impressions to the thread!

Greg
