Compute Resources Associate VM

I imported (via fact upload and report upload) a bunch of pre-existing
hosts. I would like to associate them with the correct compute resource.
However clicking associate VM under the compute resources ends up
associating it with a completely different host (in fact it ends up
associating with a physical host).

My understanding is that it is using the MAC address to find the
corresponding host to associate with. Is there a way I can get additional
details around what process it is running to make this association? Turning
on debug logs doesn't give me much more information.

Which type of compute resource is it?
