Error after upgrade to 1.x

Hi,

I'm quite new to foreman and I honestly haven't really got it to work yet.
I currently use puppet to manage a few of my hosts and I'm seeing foreman
more than a front-end to puppet than a provisionning service for now.

I was running 0.4.2 and I just updated to 1.0. I'm running RHEL5, fully
up-to-date. Description of the problem:

When I restarted foreman it looked OK, but I restarted it afterwards and
now I get this error and foreman won't start:

[root@server foreman]# /etc/init.d/foreman start

it seems like the version of rubygem-mime-types package is wrong (you have
here 1.16 and below 1.18).

not sure exactly why this happens, and in general, foreman should not care
as much,

try two things

  1. see if you can find the correct version (e.g. yum upgrade?) and if not,
have a look at ~foreman/Gemfile and ~foreman/Gemfile.lock, try changing the
    1.16 to 1.18.

Jason, do you have any idea why this happened?

thanks,
Ohad

I did a yum update and there wasn't any newer package available. I still
have 1.18 installed.

I did the second recommendation (change 1.16 to 1.18) and it still won't
start, but I get a different error message:

Ah, and I forgot to mention that I did the change only in the .lock file.
There wasn't any reference to mime-types or 1.16 in the other file.

I'm guessing there is another entry in that file for mime-types?

Ah, and I forgot to mention that I did the change only in the .lock

I’m guessing there is another entry in that file for mime-types?

Ah true… I just changed every occurence to 1.18 and now I get this

I'm not sure if its a good idea to go this path, as this means the repo is
not correct and he'll start compiling stuff to get things working.

Ugo, can you please verify that you have the correct repo (e.g. releases
repo and not something else) that all of your rpms are correct etc?

I'll try to spin off another rhel5 server to verify.

I'm currently not aware of any issues with rhel6 repos.

thanks,
Ohad

I have these rpm installed: foreman-release-1.0.1-1.el5 and epel-release-5-4

The server is currently up to date with all repos.

Oh, I was using the old -release package. It was pointing to
http://yum.theforeman.org/development/el5/x86_64/ I think.

I removed the -release package, installed foreman-release-1.0.0-2 but when
I do a yum update, there is nothing to be updated. What would be the next
step?

Thanks,

Ugo

By the way I have a snapshot of the VM that I could revert to. I created
the snapshot before upgrading to 1.0.

I guess you're thinking about it… just let me know when you think of
something or if I should revert back to my snapshot and start again.

Thanks,

I was not able to reproduce the problem, can you just try rhel6 to be sure?

I could do that, but it is not trivial to setup a separate rhel6 machine to
test that out… Instead, I'd probably rebuild a rhel5 machine from
scratch.
