Foreman 1.4.0 released

The Foreman team is happy to announce the general availability of
Foreman 1.4.0 (the "FOSDEM release").

This includes a new version of the Hammer CLI, and lots of core and
proxy features. New plugin releases are also out for 1.4 compatibility,
including foreman_bootdisk and foreman_discovery.

We look forward to seeing many of you next week at Config Management
Camp in Brussels for a celebratory drink!

==== Foreman 1.4 features ====
Headline features:

  • compute profiles
  • image user data support
  • interface enhancements
  • web UI Kerberos support
  • plugin registration
  • new DNS, DHCP, Puppet proxy providers

The full release notes are available in the manual:
http://theforeman.org/manuals/1.4/index.html#Releasenotesfor1.4

==== Installation ====
Quickstart instructions using the installer:
http://theforeman.org/manuals/1.4/index.html#2.Quickstart

Packages are in yum.theforeman.org / deb.theforeman.org under the "1.4"
directories or components.

==== Upgrading from 1.3 ====
Fully supported with package upgrades. Please check the known issues
below though.

Please read the instructions here:
http://theforeman.org/manuals/1.4/index.html#3.6Upgrade

Take note of the following points, especially EL6 users:
http://theforeman.org/manuals/1.4/index.html#Upgradenotes

==== Known issues ====

  1. When Foreman is installed under a prefix such as /foreman, menu items
    link to / instead of the prefix (#3903)

  2. On Debian 6 (Squeeze) or Ubuntu 12.04, foreman-installer's
    interactive mode will raise an error with highline. Use the
    non-interactive mode as a workaround.

If you come across a bug in your usage, please file it in Redmine.

==== Thank you ====
Thank you to everybody who's been a part of this release:
http://theforeman.org/manuals/1.4/index.html#Contributors

Enjoy!

This is now resolved, we released an updated Highline gem into the 1.4 repo
for precise & squeeze to resolve the issue.

However, on all Deb distros, fresh default installs should watch out for
/etc/apache2/sites-enabled/15-default.conf being left in place by the
installer. This causes http (not https) traffic to route to the wrong
vhost, breaking http connections to Foreman. This directly impacts
provisioning, since d-i uses only http URLs. The workaround is to delete
15-default.conf and restart Apache. This is logged as Bug #4225.

Regards,
Greg

Great job, but why it's still not promoted to stable in deb repository?

When we released 1.3 there were complaints that stable was moved to
1.3 with no delay, as people using 'stable' instead of '1.3' got
upgrades when they were not expecting it. It's debatable who is right,
but it's not harmful to wait a few days before moving the symlink, and
I'm travelling for FOSDEM at the moment anyway. The link will be
updated later this week.

Thanks Greg!
No rush at all!
Good luck on FOSDEM!

This is now complete, 'stable' now points to 1.4. Hope that gave
everyone enough time :slight_smile:
