Foreman compared to RHN Satellite & "yum repo" channels

Hi

I've been eyeing out "theforeman" because I'm tired of Red Hat
Satellite. With the arrival of mcollective in puppet, I have little
need for my RHN Satellite beyond it hosting "software channels".

Is it possible to have "theforeman" act as a "yum repo"…host
"channels"?

I know I can make yum repos using apache etc, but I like the fact that
hosts have to register with the Satellite "channel" which I don't get
when using a simple apache http yum repo.

Is it possible to have "channels" parent/child etc without RHN
Satellite?

Thanks in advance!!!

Bruce

Your best bet for this is to look at http://pulpproject.org/ - this is the
heart of Redhat's attempt to replace satellite. It's only for repos and
has no UI (that part is delegated to Katello (which the author of Foreman
works on) and will give you the satellite kind of UI. It's not really
ready for production but we're using Pulp for production stuff right now
with pretty good success.
