Foreman - Puppet - Windows

OK. This here is the problem!

The following line is German:
Mitteleuropäische Sommerzeit

And that is what the puppetmaster makes out of it:
Mitteleurop\xe4ische Sommerzeit

If you manually delete the "ä" out of Mitteleuropäische Sommerzeit all
facts are shown as they should! But I don't want to change this for
all windows clients we have.
Let's see if we can get it fixed…

Anybody has ideas?

The problem is windows uses windows-1250 encoding but foreman needs UTF8.

That's why the error message occurs.

it sounds to me like two different bugs:

  1. facter does not verify that it gets the values in UTF8
  2. foreman does not check that either.

imho, its best solved in 1, and as a workaround ,we can probably fix
it in 2 as well.

please open a bug in foreman, and I would recommend to open it in
puppet too (as I'm guessing they didnt do a lot of multi language
checks for facter/puppet :)).

OK.

I posted this bug in foreman and puppet.

http://theforeman.org/issues/1560

Thank you all for your help!
