when trying to provision my host, previously discovered from the foreman discovery image, it tries using an ipv6 interface it cannot contact (I didnt set up ipv6 on foreman at all)

I’ve modified your post so it properly shows the screenshot. I would also see if IPv4 actually does work. AFAIK the installer should be dual stack and try both. Perhaps you haven’t set an IPv4 gateway in the DHCP config?
thanks it was indeed the dhcp-gateway that was configured with the wrong address. fixing this fixed the issue above.
