Foreman + xenserver?

Any plan to develop a module to connect to the hypervisor xenserver Foreman?
I think KVM is not good for production env. And i think xenserver more
stable than kvm and have more powerfull tools.
KVM still raw for prod env.

I'd disagree with your statements about KVM, but that's another discussion.

Michał Piotrowski has started working on XenServer support here:
https://github.com/theforeman/foreman/pull/1156

We're waiting for an update to the last patch review, so hopefully this
will be mergeable for a future release. It's unlikely to be Foreman 1.5.

Word.

On the other discussion note – head over to www.ovirt.org to find out
more about stability of KVM. Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization product
is based on oVirt.

KVM is rock solid, I cannot remember to see it to crash actually.

Yes it rock solid.
But i cant find normal tools for administrating this product.
In Citrix Xenserver tools all in one box. I dont need make some dog-nail
for administration tasks. But for KVM i need make many many dog-nail.
for example - bubbling. I need start mannually writing script for make
bubbling active. In Citrix Xenserver, i dont need this - this function work
from box.
When this script is running my database on VM go to crash and restart

I try opennebula, but i cant migrate my already running VM in to opennebula
environment, and other many thing that in citrix i can make easy in kvm
realized very hard to use.

look at ovirt.org.

thank you.
Do this right now.

Where we can discuss about ovirt?
(I install ovirt-engine, on another host install ovirt host - many steps to
configure, many restrictions. How do you use that? I dont understand.
Citrix xen - best thing i know at this moment for SMB level)

Here if its about integration between Foreman and oVirt, else there is
an irc channel on irc.oftc.net #ovirt or the mailinglist(s) of oVirt,
see http://www.ovirt.org

Once you have oVirt installed you can use Foremans Compute Resource to
manage the VMs on oVirt.

Could you elaborate on the restrictions?

I try to explain this on examples

i think ovirt is very hard to use, and has many things to manual configure.

  1. install ovirt-engine separatelly.WHY? Why hypervisor cannot be a normal
ovirt-engine? if ovirt-engine host die we have big trouble.
  2. ovirt need Network based File Storage. WHY? I have Hypervisor with many
disks. I want use this local storage, but i need to use NFS (or SCSI or
other). For setup i need to make nontrivial settings. I need local storage
for fast speed. But i dont understand how ovirt will be migrate VM when
they be on local storage (citrix xen can this)
  3. installation steps in setup ovirt-host (install on baremetall) - i dont
understand why administrators so limited in this step?

citrix xenserver

  1. all configurations on same hosts. Yes, Xencenter need only windows os,
but i can install/uninstall xenserver without any problem - All
    configuration on all pool hosts.
  2. From the box xenserver can use local storage. And very easy can add many
    types of existing storage.
  3. Installation easy like in Centos/RedHat.

Why i start trying to test ovirt? You can ask me.
Because foreman has not yet implemented xenserver module
Because i came in to new work and here pure libvirt with more then 25 vps
and because i need normal administrator tool for this.
I trying opennebula - raw
Now i try to setup ovirt - better than opennebula, but also - raw
I have few years expirience with citrix xenserver, and now i really try to
use open tools - they pretty from outside and ugly inside.

Will be wait foreman module for xenserver.
sorry for my language, i have many emotion from my new expirience with
kvm-based hypervisors.

If either a host dies or engine dies you don't loose the complete
infrastructure. You can life without engine for a while. Only thing is
you can't restart/create VM's at that moment. Install minimal centos,
install engine, restore backup (1-2h work) and continue, loose a host?,
put another one in the rack, boot oVirt Node, add to engine and continue.

You can use local storage but migratiion is restricted.

You can choose to use Centos/Fedora minimal install OR use the oVirt
Node installation. Depends on the needs of you/your organisation. Want
to install 'extra' stuff on your hosts then go with the first else if
they are expendable go with the last option.

2a. oVirt 3.4 has a shared storage domain in which the restriction of
using one type is left. Later versions will loosen this further.

No problem. People are here and on the oVirt lists/channel to help you
if need/want help.
