Interest in a Foreman podcast?

Hi all,

I've been thinking for a while about how to get more feedback and
reflection from you guys, and the idea of doing a community podcast keeps
coming up in my head.

Currently I'm thinking of doing it monthly, with myself hosting (and
regular co-host maybe? not sure…), plus a guest dev and 2-3 guest
community members (volunteers welcome or I can ping active people from the
list/IRC). We can talk shop, current roadblocks, features we're loving,
etc.

What do you think? Will that format work? In case you don't want to post
anything, and just want to +1 or -1, I've set up a straw poll (yes, that
font is horrible but it's a quick & easy poll site)

Hello

That strawpoll site is running too many scripts so could not vote there.

I think podcasts take far too much time, a news letter with brief details
is more efficient for all concerned.

Stephen

Fair enough - know any better alternatives? I had a quick google and
didn't find a lot.

For the record (for those not wishing to load the poll), stats currently
stand at 10 votes Yes, 2 votes No.

We do indeed have a newsletter (see [1] for the latest edition). My aim is
to encourage discussion and feedback from the community, to find out what's
happening with users, discuss problems/solutions/best practices. Typically
we don't see a lot of comments on newsletter entries, so I'm searching
around for ways to generate talk. I'd be happy to take submissions for the
newsletter from the community too, if anyone cares to write any

That is a webpage, not really a newsletter.

Anyway, I still think the effort spent on a podcast would be better
spent on a short and to the point e-mail. A landing page with links to
the the news pages could be useful.

Sorry for top posting the fist time, I used the web UI while searching
for an e-mail to link to.

I word Stephen here, I've never actually listened to many podcasts in my
life, it's too time consuming for me. We already have videos. And
podcasts have one huge disadvantage - Google does not index them. At
least today, AFAIK

Written text is so much better, we still have some work to do in
documenting our project. There are still gaps that can be filled with
articles, blogposts or interviews (yes, I would love to see interviews
with users and developers).

If you are going to start them, consider testing some software or
service that would create transcript of it so it's searchable.

Two points from me:

  1. I enjoy a good concise newsletter with links to blog posts, if there
are blog posts in existence which I think we need and should find ways to
    do more of
  2. Audio (or even video as audio sometimes) podcasts are great for certain
activities, I don't always have time to read, but driving in my car, tasks
around the house are a great time to listen to sneak in a podcast

I agree with Eric's comments here. A podcast would be really great way to
take in info and keep up with what is going on in the community while
commuting, exercising, cooking, or whatever activity that you can't be
tethered to a screen while doing.

+1 to a podcast from me.
