Query regading space utilization on foreman and foreman-proxy servers

Problem: We have a query regarding space utilization on foreman server and external proxy server. We have one foreman main server and foreman smart proxy server. We have done the sync from foreman server to smart proxy server with the download option as “on demand”. Then we have register one vm with foreman-proxy server and tried to install nfs package on the server. But we are getting the below error:

[root@foreman-client ~]# yum update
Updating Subscription Management repositories.
BaseOS x86_64 os 151 B/s | 14 B 00:00

Error: Failed to download metadata for repo 'ROCKY9_BaseOS_x86_64_os': Cannot download repomd.xml: Cannot download repodata/repomd.xml: All mirrors were tried.

Once we change the download policy as “immediate” and sync foreman server to foreman smart proxy server, packages are getting listed in the newly registered vm. Alsowe could see that the space utlization is more when we selec “immediate” download policy. So, is there anything that, when we first time sync from foreman to foreman-proxy, do we need to select download policy as “immediate” and then can we change it as “on demand” or it should be “immediate” only everytime when we do the sync?

Expected outcome:

Foreman and Proxy versions:- Foreman 3.13 with katello 4.15

**Foreman and Proxy plugin versions:**Foreman 3.13 with katello 4.15

Distribution and version: Rocky 9

Other relevant data:

Because on immediate download policy space utilization is more storage.

Hi Team,

Any update on this topic… Please help us on this…

Please let me know if any other details are required

I would recommend to open a new thread with a subject describing the actual problem: the missing package with on demand sync. That’s the problem. That needs to be fixed or dealt with. That should work.

The subject is misleading as it is about space utilization as is most of your text. But that has nothing to do with your problem, but is only an “issue” because you switch between on demand and immediate.

on demand should download the packages on demand. The proxy should download it on demand from the main server. The main server should download it on demand from upstream. If that doesn’t work, there is an error either on the proxy or the main server.

Put all that in a new topic. And don’t steal do domains from other people. If you want to obfuscate your own domain use example.com, example.org or example.net. That’s what they are for.
