[trip] DevConf 2016, Brno

Hi all,

(Last one of my trip reports, you can find the others at [1,2,3])

This is going to be a short report - sadly I was sick for most of DevConf,
and spent a good deal of time in my hotel. This is a shame, because I was
really excited about finally being able to attend, and from what I hear, it
was a blast.

Ivan & Marek did all the work here, organising the stand, setting up a
demo, and being present to chat with people - huge thanks to them for their
efforts. I did manage to attend for a few hours on day 1, and the stand
seemed very busy, with lots of good chat.

The demo was very well executed - Ivan had set up 3 laptops and a switch,
one as a Foreman server and two as Discovery nodes which could be
re-provisioned at will (pictures [4]). This got a lot of people's attnetion

  • it seems that seeing Discovery do it's thing on real hardware makes a
much bigger impact than trying to demo it on libvirt on a single host. I'm
looking into making this kind of demo a more common feature on our stands

I'd also thank Lukas for organising a community meal that night, which I
did manage to attend for a while - lots of people present! I didn't count,
but I'd guess at least 15, which was great to see. I got to spend time with
the some of Pulp community who came along, which was great.

Hopefully Marek and Ivan will reply to say how the stand really went, since
I wasn't there for most it. Next year I'll try not to be so ill :stuck_out_tongue:
