Ubuntu 22.04 installer - TheForeman and katello

I have to ask now. I have looked at the documentation:
https://docs.theforeman.org/3.6/Quickstart/index-katello.html
The only supported system is:
Enterprise Linux 8

In former times one spoke here
https://docs.theforeman.org/3.0/Installing_Server_on_Red_Hat/index-katello.html
from 1.2. storage requirements

  • [CentOS 7
  • [CentOS 8]
  • [Red Hat Enterprise Linux ]

in 3.1 there was still ubuntu:
https://theforeman.org/manuals/3.1/quickstart_guide.html

Supported platforms

  • CentOS 7 x86_64
  • CentOS 8 x86_64
  • CentOS 8 Stream x86_64
  • Debian 10 (Buster), amd64
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, x86_64
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, x86_64
  • Ubuntu 20.04 (Focal), amd64

I am quite confused, is there any official support for ubuntu ? CentOS is not worth it anymore.

My goal is actually:
The Foreman with Katello au fine Ubuntu 22.04 server to install. But before I do that I would like to have an actual feedback if this is officially supported or not.

maybe someone can help me out

Hey @Joda

So the difference is, the “old” guide is about Foreman explicitly, and then there was a plugin documentation for Katello on top.

You can also see that if you are looking at the nightly docs, there are also the docs for Ubuntu/Debian

Which means with the current release of Foreman 3.6 there is support for:

  • EL 8 (RHEL, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux, CentOS Stream, …)
  • Debian 11
  • Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

And if you want to install Foreman + Katello there is currently support for the EL 8 platforms.

So if you need Katello (package management) you will have to use one of the EL 8 platforms  If you don’t you can use Ubuntu 20.04.

22.04 has some packages in the repos that are too new for the application, the same also counts for EL 9. But the team is hard at work to get the support in. You can track that here!
