Use with VM's

Hi Everybody,

We are using Forman/Kattelo etc. to find out if it fits our need for a good
subscription manage tool.

Our product is Socked/CPU subscription based. That means that the use of
our product in hosted VM's on that host are unlimited as long as you pay
for the host CPU.

Is is possible to use Forman/Kattelo for such a setup? Is it possible that
Forman/Kattelo detects that the VM's are all on the same host?

Thanks.

Gr. Coen Hamers.

You can create custom subscriptions and provide a limited quantity of
them, but we don't expose Candlepin's more advanced features to end
users of Katello like being aware of the virtualization host.

You might consider a custom solution and using Candlepin directly.

I would suggest working with the candlepin team directly. It is very likely that via the API you could modify katello's custom product subscriptions with the adjustments desired (quantity, expiration, limits based on hardware, etc). If you get the API calls working, it is a small step to convert them into a plugin that would adjust katello itself. Keep us updated on your progress!

Or open up Redmine feature issues describing your use case and feature list
so that we can consider adding them to Katello. We've had some other
requests here and there to allow customization of custom product
subscriptions to meet user needs such as pulling in third party
repositories that have a limited license number on them.
