VMware provisioning - Guest OS Type?

Is there anywhere in Foreman to specify the Guest OS Type for provisioning
to VMware? Currently when it's creating VM's, it's selecting as the Guest
OS Type: Other (32-bit).

Thanks.

Unfortunately not, although this is a much needed feature.

Hi,
I had a pull request ready against foreman 1.2 (I think that was the
version). Unfortunately at that time fog was not aware of changing guest
types, interface types and SCSI controller types.
But I implemented that functionality in fog some time ago and it is
available now.
The change to foreman is still available:
https://github.com/MarcGrimme/foreman/commit/0ca6fbf082be6c1cdbef7ac945dfc73a574b04e3
I believe I also implemented interface types. Also the scsi controller
implementation should not be to difficult given the latest fog release.

As I'm currently working on very different topics I fear I cannot follow up
on this.
Nevertheless I think it should be not too difficult to port it to foreman
current master.

Sorry to help you not any more but perhaps somebody or you can follow up on
this.

Regards Marc.

Interface type selection is available in 1.4. SCSI controller and
Guest-type selection are still very much needed, though! I'm willing to
contribute and test as much as possible as I can with my limited knowledge
of Ruby.

At least SCSI controller selection is in the works:

Allowing the user to select number of virtual CPUs AND cores would also be
a nice addition.

The cores and cpus are also implemented in fog (I also changed it cause I
needed it). The only thing that's missing on that side is foreman GUI
integration.

Marc,

I was working on the Foreman code to allow a user to choose both "CPUs" and
"Cores Per Socket" to mimic what you can do in the vSphere console.
However, I'm running into issues with "cpus" and "corespersocket"
conflicting with one another.

Essentially, we need to allow a user to be able to choose the number of
sockets (cpus?) and the number of cores per socket (corespersocket?). Was
your fog code designed to allow the user to choose both of these?

Thanks,

Josh
