Problem: Hi, I’m quite new with this stuff, so I’m sorry if the question may be trivial. I’m trying to install Ubuntu 22.4 on some hosts via Foreman Version 2.0.3, hence I created a new OS corresponding to jammy release, but the machine fails at the booting…it seems it does not find the kernel…Could someone explain the problem and how to fix it?
Looks like the kernel is missing from the TFTP server directory. Could you provide more information about how you configured Ubuntu 22.4? Perhaps a paste of your templates as deployed? You should be able to do this by going to a host in build mode, opening the legacy UI, then the templates tab, then there should be an option for review the host’s templates.
Dear Peter,
thank you very much for your very quick reply and sorry for my late one.
As I wrote to you, I’m quite new to Foreman and os installation. I have
installed many hosts (virtual and physical) for a cloud infrastructure, I
used foreman for installing ubuntu 20.04.4 OS on them and I followed
the same procedures for ubuntu22. Now we would like to upgrade the OS to
ubuntu22, I attached some snapshots of the OS parameters I set on the host
as well as the ones for the Operating System section I created in Foreman.
Since I’m not an expert, I just tried to replicate the things I did for
ubutu20. As you can see, I used as repo the following one:

@bastian-src could I ask an update about the ubuntu22 auto-installing procedure? As far as I can understand people are working on it and it will be available for Foreman 3.2 on. Since we are using Foreman 2.6 I think that we have to upgrade in any case to use the auto-installer when it will be available…is it right @maximilian ?
Thank you all in advance
Hey @Lyretta! Sry for the delay.
I have a running configuration and can deploy Ubuntu 20.04.3/22.04 hosts via foreman with some manual steps necessary. I’m currently opening up issues in the foreman community to publish the changes and also the documentation of the manual steps. I’ll try to get the changes cherry-picked for 3.1 too, but 2.6 is out of support as evgeni stated here.
I hope this helps you!
Thank you very much for the information and for your work @bastian-src
I’m going to catch up with all the things we need for installing ubuntu22 via the latest foreman version.
Thanks again!
